In a startling turn of events, Chief Oyebanji Olowofela, an octogenarian residing in Igbara Odo, Ekiti State and recognized as the Asamo of Igbara Ido, has been apprehended in connection with the recent kidnappings and killings of two traditional rulers in Ekiti State.

The arrest unfolded when a coordinated effort by security forces from Kwara State descended upon Ijowa Ekiti, situated in Ajoni Local Council Development Area (LCDA), dispatching a team to detain Olowofela at his residence in Igbara Odo.

Shock rippled through the community as Olowofela, shackled and escorted by the detachment, arrived in Ijowa. Villagers expressed disbelief that he could be implicated in the heinous acts that have plagued their region.

Investigations revealed Olowofela’s alleged involvement in the murders of Oba David Babatunde Ogunsakin, the Elesun of Esun Ekiti, Oba Samuel Olatunde Olusola, the Olumojo of Imojo Ekiti, and Oba Olusegun Aremu-Cole, the Olukoro of Ikoro in Kwara State.

Delegates from the four Southwest states of Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, and Ekiti participated in the election.

The election, held during the Union’s Quadrennial Delegate Conference, was monitored and observed by the acting National President of the group, Aliyu Issa-Ore.

Issa-Ore, addressing the gathering, explained that the Union’s Constitution stipulates that the zone permitted to fill the national president’s position would elect its preferred candidate and present them to the national body.

The acting NURTW President, represented by Mrs. Adedamola Salam, Head of Finance at the National Headquarters in Abuja, added, “The Southwest zone has fully complied with the Constitution in electing Oluomo as President.”

The delegates also elected Tajudeen Agbede as Vice-President, Southwest, while Akeem Adeosun was chosen as Trustee from the Zone.

Shortly after taking the oath of office, Akinsanya, surrounded by associates and family members, called for peace and pledged to work towards unity among members.

He further stated, “I have forgiven everyone who has offended me, and I hope those I have offended will forgive me as well.

“The MOUs will involve agreements in deepening cooperation, in green economy, in agriculture, in satellite technology development, in media enterprise development and promotion, as well as blue economic development and national planning cooperation.
