Ondo state police command have apprehended two teenagers, Precious Kolawole and Philip Emmanuel over the brutal killing of their boss, Adeni Iyabode in Akure, Ondo state.

Two Ondo teenagers aged both aged 16 and 17 awaiting trial for murder the duo conspired to kill their boss, Adeni Iyabode, a popular caterer in Akure, Ondo State capital.

Precious Kolawole and Philip Emmanuel were both staff of late Iyabode, Philip had worked with her for over five months while Precious had worked for about two months before they brutally killed her over N60,000.

Late Iyabode celebrated her 54th birthday in July and she hosted lots of guests. In the course of the celebration, Philip overheard a conversation she had with one of her client that N150,000 would be paid into her account.

Philip, who was described as a trusted employee of the deceased, was said to have briefed Precious on the money being expected by their boss. They both agreed that the only way to get the money was to kill their boss.

On July 25th, two days after she celebrated her birthday, she invited her two staff to her Oda road residence in Akure, the Ondo State capital to help her clean the house. Little did she knew they had other plans. She asked both staff to go to the kitchen to prepare food for themselves. It was after eating that they pounced on her while she was asleep and stabbed her severally.

The two assailants severed her head and set the body ablaze. A turn of event was when they could only withdrew N60,000 and not N150,000. They split the money into two equal halves and fled.

According to a relative of the deceased, “They covered the deceased’ s head with duvet and continued hitting her head, they later cut her wrist and leg. They used knives and stabbed her stomach, chest and breasts”.

“In a bid to cover their tracks, the suspects attempted to set the victim ablaze but the gas refused to explode.

“They wanted to burn the whole house so that people will think it was caused by gas explosion from the kitchen. But the gas cylinder did not explode as they planned. They then took her ATM cards and two android phones and fled the scene on that Thursday.”

Ondo Commiasioner of Police, Abayomi Oladipo, said painstaking investigation led to the arrest of Philip. He said Philip’s voluntary statement expressed their individual degrees of involvement in the dastardly act.

Speaking when he was paraded, Philip denied being the mastermind. He claimed he was drugged by Precious to carry out the act.

According to him, “I am here because I killed my madam. Last month, I have worked with her for five months. I was her cook. She just employed a driver who have only worked for two weeks.

One day the driver came to me and said N150,000 just entered madam account. He told me we should killed my madam and collect the money. I said I have not killed someone before.

“On Saturday, madam said I should come and help her wash clothes that she was very tired. The driver came around and madam was surprised but the driver explained that he wanted to help her.

“That day, the driver brought a drink and gave to me. I drank it. He brought out a cutlass and started threatening me that he will also kill me.

“We went into the house and he pushed me inside. I said i should use cutlass to hit the woman. I did it. But I started crying.

“After we killed the woman, the driver went to check the only in the account and found only N60,000. He gave me N30,000. I went to Idanre.

“After four days, we heard the woman has died. Police called us to come and explain when last we saw the woman. I told them and they asked me to go home.

“They called me again and told me I am in communication with the driver. I had to confess.”

Precious, who was arrested after two months on the run, denied being the mastermind.

He said it was Philip that planned the killing and lured him into the act.

“I am a waiter to her. Two of us were involved in the killing. I was only given a phone and N30,000. It was the second boy that heard about the money. He called me and we did the act.

“I used part of the money and dashed out the rest of the money. I stay with my parents here in Akure. I am still in Secondary School.

“I wanted to be an Engineer. I know how to drive any kind of truck.”

The Ondo Police Commissioner cautioned Nigerians on discussing sensitive financial information, especially around employees or individuals who might misuse such knowledge.

“Avoid openly discussing financial transactions or other personal matters in the presence of staff or others who do not need to be informed.”

Both teenagers have been remanded and slowly waiting for Justice to be served.

… discussed African Security

President of the United States, Joe Biden, has expressed his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Nigerian government for dropping the criminal charges against Head of Financial Crimes Compliance at Binance, Tigran Gambaryan.
Gambaryan, a US citizen, was arrested on a business trip to Nigeria in February and charged with his company for laundering $35.4m and tax evasion, which they denied.
This followed the escape from custody of his colleague Nadeem Anjarwalla, a British-Kenyan national who was Binance’s Africa regional manager, and had been arrested in Nigeria alongside Gambaryan.

But the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) last week announced that it had withdrawn the money laundering charges against Tigran Gambaryan to allow him to get medical treatment outside the country.

However, to express gratitude on the development and a number of other matters of mutual interest, President Biden called President Tinubu at about 4pm today (Tuesday) and held a conversation, which lasted about 30 minutes.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, who disclosed this to journalists at the State House, Abuja, said discussions centered around the recent discharge of Gambaryan and other diplomatic issues.
The Minister said Biden expressed support for Nigeria’ quest to get a permanent seat status on the United Nations Security Council, especially with the country’s leadership roles in Africa and peace-keeping efforts and sacrifices across the globe.

According to Tuggar: “The call was about the collaboration between the two countries with regards to law enforcement and law enforcement agencies as well as the release of one of the suspects of the crypto currency exchange company that you are all aware of.

“In response, President Tinubu also thanked him and the US for the partnership and collaboration in numerous areas, and also discussed the issue of collaboration with regards to security in Africa, in particular West Africa.
“President Biden equally assured that this is a partnership that will continue and he stated, as a matter of fact, not more than not just once, but at least twice, that the future of the world resides in Africa, which is why it was important for this partnership to continue.
“The two leaders also discussed the issue of the permanent seats in the United Nations Security Council, and President Biden once again assured that the United States is committed to seeing Africa having two permanent seats and also reiterated that he does not see any reason why one of those seats should not belong to Nigeria, given its position in Africa, its stature and importance.”
